Parc de la Ciutadella
Name of the park cames from a military fortress that was built here by King Philip V, after 1714, which conquered Barcelona during the War of the Spanish crown. It was the largest fortress in Europe at that time ”with star“ shape, in Spanish called ”Ciutadella“. On her site were forced to work hundreds of Catalans for 3 years while the city provided financial support for not only construction but also to Spain's military spending. The hated symbol of Spanish domination in the Catalan city was razed in 1869 by Catalan General Prim.
